Why I Am
Please don't be too hard on me, I found this in my old poetry envelope. It was written in 1978, and sounds much better when read, instead of being heard. This is the same for all poetry.
As I sit by the window
The rain hits the sill
I hear noise from downstairs
Why can't they be still?
I'm not able to laugh
I can't even cry
Noises won't leave me alone
All my hopes have been blown
Away with the rest of me
But I've learned sadness can be joyful
That love can hurt most
And loneliness can allow my feelings to coast
On a wave of emotion
Like a bird in the sky
And as I sit by the window
While the noisy world goes by
I suddenly know why I am.
